WEBSITE COMPATIBILITY

We use Macromedia Dreamweaver to check that there are no serious errors with pages in Netscape, Opera and Internet Explorer. We also try to use standard fonts - Arial is used virtually everywhere on generic pages - so that what we see at design time is much the same as what is seen at run time. If you have problems viewing pages on this site then email webmaster@hawick.scotborders.sch.uk. The HHS Website should be accessible to everyone, no matter how old/obsure their hardware/software is. Please inform us of any problems you may have.

Most pages on the site use relative spacing in tables, so should display correctly at any resolution equal to or higher than 800x600.

Note that the website contains the following features which may cause problems in some older browsers:
Feature	Compatibility Tested
LRC Presentation: A presentation is available from the LRC pages, in Flash format.	IE 5.5, IE 6, both with Flash Player 6 installed.
Navigation menu: A menu drops down when you hover above the "Navigation Bar" buttons. This is implemented by JavaScript.	IE 5.5, IE 6, Netscape (Linux version - old), Konqueror (Linux/KDE). Note that when font sizes are ignored and set by the browser (for accessibility), the navigation menu text can expand to be larger than the menu itself.
Recent Updates: This uses JavaScript and an XML source file, with ActiveX, to cycle through the recent updates.	IE 5.5, IE 6. Problematic in Konqueror (GNU/Linux/KDE).
Enquiries Page: Uses floating frames with the <iframe> tag.	IE 5.5, IE 6. Opera 7.1 Beta. Should be compatible with most browsers since this is in the HTML 4 specification.
Link to School Handbook: This links to a PDF and will start Acrobat Reader if installed.	IE 5.5, IE 6, both with Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. Konqueror (Linux) with PDF viewer available.

The Physics and English pages are, at the time of writing, created using Microsoft Word, so may be optimised for viewing with Internet Explorer.
